THE CHARTER TOWNSHIP OF OSHTEMO
Township Board Minutes
June 1, 1999
The Oshtemo Township Board held a special meeting at the Township Hall. The meeting was called to order by Supervisor Fleckenstein at 4:00 p.m. All Board Members were present. There were four people present.
Supervisor Fleckenstein explained that the purpose of the meeting was to appoint a person to the position of Township Clerk, replacing Clerk Elaine Branch, who will be retiring, effective July 1, 1999. In addition, the salary for the new Clerk must be established.
SALARY OF TOWNSHIP CLERK
Trustee Block, Chairman of the Personnel Committee, reported that it was their recommendation that the starting salary for the position of Township Clerk should be $37,000. He further moved to adopt the resolution setting the salary at $37,000. The motion was supported by Anderson.
Trustee Bushouse stated he was opposed to lowering the salary. He felt that the elected official should be paid for the responsibility, not for the experience. He was reminded that we established a step system for salaries, which included the elected officials.
There was no further discussion and the roll call showed: Block - yes Anderson - yes
Johnson - yes Bushouse - no Brown - yes Fleckenstein - yes. Adopted
APPOINTMENT OF TOWNSHIP CLERK
Trustee Block reviewed the fact that we had interviewed the two candidates, Debbie Everett and Theresa Paddock on May 25th. He thanked Theresa for being present and announced that Debbie would not be present due to recent death of her mother.
At that point a motion was made by Anderson, seconded by Johnson to appoint Deputy Clerk Debbie Everett to be Township Clerk effective July 1, 1999. Motion carried unanimously.
No further business. Meeting adjourned at 4:15 p.m.
