2006 POLICE PROTECTION AGREEMENT
Lengthy discussion was held concerning the police protection agreement with Kalamazoo County. Items included cost of wages, benefits, support services, the investment the Township has made in the satellite office, and the need for a more permanent solution to funding of police protection county wide.
The 2006 contract in the amount of $413,875 reflects a 3.34% increase over 2005. Further discussion resulted in a preference for a two year contract with the same 3.34% increase for 2007; the contract also includes a "wage reopener," which would make the township responsible for 50% of any increases negotiated. It was noted that the proposed two year agreement must be approved by the County Board.
Motion by Bushouse, second by Corakis to authorize the Supervisor and Clerk to sign the 2006 police protection agreement in the amount of $413,875 and if approved by the Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners, a two-year contract with a 3.34% increase for 2007 with the understanding the contract contains a wage reopener. Carried.
There was no further business and the meeting was adjourned at approximately 4:45 p.m.
