Upcoming Volunteer Opportunity

The Oshtemo Historical Society (OHS) will host a “Preservation Celebration” at the Drake Farmstead, 927 North Drake Road, from 1-4 pm on September 16. The event is free and open to the public.  It will be an afternoon of old-fashioned family fun, with tours of the (partially restored) historic house, demonstrations by craftsmen (blacksmith, woodworking, etc), games for kids, miniature horses on display, live music, vendors, etc.  A new mural of the Farmstead, created by local artist Conrad Kaufman, will be on display. Baked goods and “vintage items” will be offered for sale. All funds raised by OHS from this event will go toward restoration of the reception room in the historic house.  Last year’s fall event was an open house only (no vendors or demonstrations) and attracted over 300 people. We are hoping for even more this year!

Volunteers (of all ages!) are needed to help with the following tasks:

  1. help park cars during the event, 12:30 – 3:30 pm (or until no longer needed)
  2. donate baked goods for the bake sale, deliver on 9/16/18 by 12:15 pm
  3. donate household items for sale, deliver on or before 9/14/18
  4. help out during the event – at the bake sale, vintage item sale, quilt display, etc., 1-4 pm
  5. help with cleaning the house before the event (First session is scheduled on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 12:30 pm)

To volunteer, contact Karen High, Parks Director, at (269) 216-5233 or gro.omethso@hgihk
