The Oshtemo Fire Department operates three fire station throughout the township. Fire Station 5-1 is staffed 24 hours a day 365 days a year. Fire Station 5-2 is also staffed 24 hours a day 365 days a year, Fire Station 5-3 is not staffed.
Fire Station 5-1 located at 7275 West Main is the main administrative fire station, four full time staff work out of this station. This fire station covers the north section of the township, responding first due to addresses North of L Ave. Fire Station 5-1 houses Engine 521, Engine 511, Tower 541, Brush Truck 571, Rescue 551, Car 504 and Car 500. Fire Station 5-1 also responds to automatic/mutual aid requests from Alamo Township, Kalamazoo Township, City of Kalamazoo, and Mattawan.
The Chief’s and Deputy Chief’s offices are located at Fire Station 5-1 as well as the Assistant Chief/Fire Inspector’s office and Firefighter/ Administrative Assistant’s office. These four positions staff the station Monday through Friday 7:00 to 6:00 PM, outside these times the fire station is staffed by a paid-on-call Driver/Operator and Resident Intern Firefighter.
Fire Station 5-2 located at 3500 South 6th Street houses two full time staff. This fire station covers the south section of the township, responding first due to addresses South of L Ave. Fire Station 5-2 houses TeleSquirt 532, Squad 582, Brush Truck 572, and Rescue 552. Fire Station 5-2 also responds to automatic/mutual aid requests from Texas Township, City of Kalamazoo, and the City of Portage.
The Training & Safety Officer, currently filled by a Captain, as well as the Firefighter/Fleet Maintenance Specialist’s offices are at Fire Station 5-2. These two personnel staff Fire Station 5-2 Monday through Friday 7:00 to 6:00 PM, outside these times the fire house is staffed by a paid-on-call Driver/Operator and paid-on-call Firefighter.
Fire Station 5-2 opened in the summer of 2001, replacing the fire station at Parkview and Stadium. Fire Station 5-2 is the main training center for the fire department, many unique training aids were constructed into the building itself. Besides serving as the fire department training center, as well as a multitude of other regional training events.
Fire House 5-3 located at 3270 North 3rd St is an unstaffed station housing Engine 513, Brush Truck 573 and Trailer 503. Paid-on-call personnel respond to this fire house to respond either apparatus if needed for an incident. Fortunately several paid-on-call personnel live in close proximity to Fire Station 5-3, making it a rather busy fire house for being unstaffed.
