There are three cemeteries located in the Township of Oshtemo. They are intended for use by township residents and their families only.

GENESEE PRAIRIE CEMETERY

Genesee Prairie Cemetery located at the corner of Parkview Avenue and South 11th Street.
Standard graves and cremation sites available. Above ground memorial markers allowed except on cremation only sites.

WEST OSHTEMO CEMETERY

West Oshtemo Cemetery located at the corner of South 1st Street and West KL Avenue.
Standard graves only. Cremains can be interred on standard grave sites, however. Above ground markers allowed.

HILL CEMETERY

Hill Cemetery located at the corner of North 2nd Street and West J Avenue.
Standard graves and cremation sites available. Above ground memorial markers allowed except on cremation only sites.

Purchase Graves

Graves may be purchased for a reasonable fee by contacting the Clerk at the Township Hall. Click here to view our Fee Schedule. Click here to contact the Clerk.

Ground Maintenance

Only trees or shrubs with shallow root systems can be planted.  Examples would be Flowering Crab Trees, Dogwood Trees, and Lilac Bushes.  Headstones are placed at the west end of the gravesite, therefore, flowers must be placed within 1 foot of the marker, or on the east side of the headstone.  The Cemeteries are maintained by the Township, therefore the Township Board reserves the right to remove or trim any tree, plant or shrub located within the cemetery in the interest of maintaining proper appearance and  the use of the cemetery.  The Township shall have the right and authority to remove any and all flowers, emblems, or displays that are or become   unsightly.  Attempts are made to keep cemeteries accessible in the winter, however, due to the limited area available to accumulate snow, plowing of drives will   occur at 4” or more snowfall.

Markers

One above ground marker per grave is allowed, or a double marker centered over 2 adjoining graves.  Possible burial combinations include: 1 full burial per grave, 1 full burial and 1 cremation per grave, 3 cremations per grave, 1 cremation per cremation site.  Markers for cremation sites must be flush.
