Captain Chip Everett of Oshtemo Fire and Rescue will be receiving the 2014 Training Officer of the Year by the International Fire Chief’s Association, Volunteer and Combination Officers Section.

A section of the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC http://www.iafc.org/) is called the Volunteer and Combination Officers Section (VCOS http://www.iafc.org/micrositeVCOSorg/index.cfm). Their educational and management focus is on departments of our size and makeup. Last year Oshtemo Fire and Rescue received national recognition for our Safe Vehicle Operations program. Clearly that award took the collective efforts of all of our members. This year, we are truly proud to announce that an individual at Oshtemo Fire and Rescue is being recognized nationally.

Earlier this year, an application for the 2014 VCOS Training Officer of the Year was compiled and submitted on behalf of Captain Chip Everett. Capt. Everett manages our internal training program which includes leadership of our training committee. In addition, he is highly active in our Kalamazoo County Fire Chief’s Association training committee which promotes and supports interoperable responses via regionalized training and adoption of corresponding procedures.

VCOS made personal contact with Chip just yesterday to inform him of his having received this award over dozens of other qualified applicants. As a benefit, this awards sponsor, TargetSolutions, provides the flight and lodging for him to attend the Fire Rescue International Conference (http://www.iafc.org/Education/Events.cfm?ItemNumber=4585) in Dallas next month (Aug 13 – 16). The award will be formally bestowed by VCOS at that conference.

Please join us in personally recognizing the extraordinary efforts and talents of Captain Chip Everett!
